2024 sparked something new. I had spent most of the previous year trying different techniques, styles, media, and surfaces. Some, I found to be too constrictive, stalling my artistic flow and sucking the joy out of painting. Others I found liberating and keeping me on the canvas for hours on end. What I think I’ve realized is that if I’m not enjoying myself, if I’m not having fun and going with the flow, I avoid painting altogether. My style has emerged, at least for now, as something caught between realism and the abstract. Starting in a free flow of intuitive painting and settling somewhere closer to creative realism.
